Further Favourite Artists....RONALD SEARLE (1920 – 2011)
Famous for his St. Trinian books - based on his sisters, along with various other girls schools, in Cambridge - and his collaboration with Geoffrey Willans and the creation of the Molesworth books.
However there was a very serious side to his work. Searle was a POW in Changi prison during WWII and then in the Kwai jungle working on the Siam-Burma "Death" railway. He drew many sketches of the conditions of that time and around 300 drawings survived - most of the drawings appear in his 1986 work 'Ronald Searle: To the Kwai and Back, War Drawings 1939–1945'.
