So let us continue on the theme of Fairy or perhaps, Faerie Tales, which do of course include Goblins 🙂 These tales come in all guises, from the macabre to the humorous.
One of my favourite illustrators for the slightly macabre but also humorous Faerie and Goblin Tales is BRIAN FROUD. Together with Terry Jones they have created the most fantastic collection of Fairy stories in the wonderful "Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book", "Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Letters" and "The Goblin's Companion". Every time I revisit these books, it makes me grin...perhaps that says something about my sense of humour! Ahem.
If you are looking for the visually stunning in the world of Fairie, look no further than "Faeries" co-illustrated with ALAN LEE - an absolute gem, one of the most beautiful illustrations of Faeries imaginable.
Amazing talent runs in the Froud family with Brain's wife WENDY - whom he met on the film set of "The Dark Crystal" - being a puppet- maker and sculptor. Her fabulous work can be seen in the books "The Winter's Child" and "A Midsummer Night's Faery Tale" written by Terri Windling.
In these troubling times, it is perhaps, a nice idea to live in the world of "Faerie" for a few hours
