Mammy Bears Books 20 June ยท Books that have a timeless appeal are many and varied. One of the wonderful books I discovered in my childhood was "Uncle Remus His Songs and Sayings" by Joel Chandler Harris. Harris collected and adapted a number of stories, songs and folk tales which were basically a collection of animal stories, songs and oral folklore that he gleaned from southern black Americans, in the late 19th century. He created 'Uncle Remus', a fictional character, to 'narrate' this collection of black American folk tales which he had adapted for his stories. These were published in book form in 1881. In 1946, Walt Disney produced the film 'Song of the South', a combination of live action and animation, in which the actor James Baskett played Uncle Remus - a film I remember being thoroughly entranced with, when I saw it in around 1965. If you are an Uncle Remus fan, I have an excellent copy of this book, dated 1895, profusely illustrated by Arthur Burdett Frost. Also a beautful book - 'Uncle Remus Stories retold by Jane Shaw' with stunning illustrations by G W Backhouse, aswell as the Little Golden Book - 'Walt Disney's Uncle Remus' - you can view these lovely books on www.mammybearsbooks.com. Go on, take a peep...you never know what you may find
